I illustrated this image to accompany an article called “The Future of Farm to Table” for Penn Appetit magazine, a high quality, student-run foodie mag on Penn’s campus. The assignment was to create an illustration that clearly described the article. The article highlights the innovations that farmers, producers, middle men, and chefs develop in their efforts to integrate novel, local-friendly methods of bringing food to the table. This lent itself to a futuristic styling of an assembly line showing the basics of the process involved in the “farm to table” movement. I sketched the scene first on paper, going through many iterations as I reviewed it with the director of art for Penn Appetit. I took the sketch into Adobe Illustrator and added a grit overlay to stabilize the somewhat busy composition.
