Artist's Biography: Jessica Hische

Since I discovered my typographical interests, Jessica Hische has been a constant inspiring force in my life. Her story about coming from a small town and making it big through dedication and self-taught growth reminds me to never give up on myself. In honor of this amazing woman and artist, my final project for a book design course (taught by Sharka Hyland, another incredible mentor and artist) was an autobiography of Hische consisting of multiple interviews and images drawn from her personal website. [I do not own any of the artwork in this book, save for the book design itself.] The book is self-published, and in some of the images you can see other examples of the type of binding I used. This project was an exercise in every aspect of book design, but particularly hierarchy and style; I learned a great deal about how to distinguish between multiple speakers and how to respect the heart of the artist while managing my own stylistic intentions.
